THE MERION PARK CIVIC ASSOCIATION
The Merion Park Civic Association (MPCA) is a non-profit organization
representing approximately 380 homeowners and families residing in the Merion
Park section of Lower Merion Township. The association acts as a liaison between
Lower Merion Township, local police and fire departments, other Lower Merion
Township Civic Associations and the homeowners in matters that may affect the
neighborhood.
The association also plans and facilitates various community activities such as picnics, concerts and other events that may be of interest to its members. The association strives to enhance the quality of our neighborhood. Sixty percent of the homeowners contribute yearly dues and are considered active members.
Cynwyd Trail Walk
WHYY (91 FM) covered the walk on the proposed Cynwyd Trail route - you can see
it on your computer at http://www.whyy.org/
Main Line Life covered the walk in last week's edition, and their photographer
Pete Bannon took a number of interesting photographs which can be seen by clicking
on Main
Line Life. If you click "View Slideshow" under the accompanying
photograph, those of you who attended will see some familiar scenes, and those
of you who couldn't will get some sense of the size of the group (estimated
at 250 people).
The presentation on the Cynwyd Trail from the meeting of January 30th can be
found on the Township's website at http://www.lowermerion.org
Click on the Cynwyd Trail site, which is the second item on the left. You can
also view the Main Line Life Slideshow (though without the accompanying article).

Shade Tree Stakes
The shade tree commission has been placing wooden stakes on resident's lawns
in preparation for this spring planting of shade trees. These locations must
be clear of water, gas and sewer lines and also must not fall beneath overhead
wires. They are placed in the public right-of-way. The right-of-way is public
land that typically extends fifteen feet from the curb but may vary. The township
uses maps and GPS in finding the right-of-way. You can view more on the township's
web site by clicking Shade

Directors Needed
The Civic Association has opening for five directors. If you
are interested in participating in your neighborhood -- zoning issues, traffic
safety concerns, planning social events -- please call one of the officers for
more information.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us plan and produce the Spring Picnic and to work with us to bring new and exciting events to the neighborhood.
Lawn Signs
We would like to thank all those residents who participated in our 2002-2003
address lawn sign campaign. We had well over 100 signs ordered and as you look
around the neighborhood you should see the new signs. These new signs have our
Civic Association Logo and the actual street name. The reflective signs add
safety by allowing emergency personnel and visitors to quickly find addresses,
even at night.
We would also like to thank Kunda Sign Company, Inc. of King of Prussia who worked hard to help us design and produce the signs.
The association has not yet decided on when our next coordinated sign campaign will be. The first campaign was in 1990, so it might be awhile until the next one.
Kunda Sign said they would accept individual orders from our members. They may be reached at 610-265-2442. They have copies of our signs on record, so please tell them you wish to purchase a Merion Park Civic Association lawn address sign when you call. Be sure to tell them this is an individual order. They will build a sign and charge you directly. The last time we checked the charge for an individual sign was in the $50 range.
Merion Park Civic Association has no control over Kunda Sign pricing or production and receives no compensation for orders.
Welcoming New Neighbors
If there are new neighbors on your street, please call Diane Actman
who chairs our welcome committee. New arrivals to our neighborhood receive a
small welcoming gift that might include a clock-pencil holder, cookies or candies,
merchant discounts and a copy of our telephone directory.
Email
We sometimes use email to notify our neighbors of last minute changes
to scheduled activities and to notify residents of local events. To add your
email address to our database, send your name, address and email address to
the Merion Park Civic Association
Database Administrator.
WE RESPECT YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY.
THIS INFORMATION IS FOR MPCA USE ONLY AND WILL NOT BE DISTRIBUTED OR SOLD. YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS FOR OUR INTERNAL USE ONLY AND WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE TELEPHONE DIRECTORY.
